(EMT) is and what a paramedic is. In just about every state, two levels
of certification exist; one is the EMT- Basic while the other is the
EMT-Paramedic. Sometimes states will use different names for EMT-Basic.
For instance, for the basic level in California it is referred to as
EMT-1. Other states recognize a certification that encompasses an
intermediate level which is often known as EMT-Intermediate. This level
of certification is tending to fall out of favor in most states. It is
very common in this industry to call a basic EMT as just EMT, and the
EMT-Paramedics are just known as paramedics.
